Bryan County Advances Road Improvements Energy Storage Project and Wastewater Capacity Upgrades

Bryan County continues to invest in the infrastructure and economic development tools needed to support steady growth in southern Oklahoma. Recent progress includes county road resurfacing, the first Tax Increment Financing district for a major energy storage project, and significant wastewater system upgrades in Durant.

East Rodeo Road Improvements Underway

Bryan County crews have begun a three-mile resurfacing project on East Rodeo Road. The work includes rebuilding the road base, improving drainage, installing culverts, and applying a chip-and-oil surface. Funding comes from county bridge and road improvement funds that were set aside over several years. Completion is expected later in 2026.

Local residents have welcomed the long-awaited repairs, noting that the roadway’s condition had been a persistent problem.

Battery Energy Storage System TIF Approved

Bryan County has created its first Tax Increment Financing district to support a large-scale battery energy storage system developed by Peregrine Energy Solutions (operating as The Katy Energy Storage LLC). The approximately $270 million project is planned on about 40 acres northeast of Colbert and will connect to a nearby electrical substation.

The facility is designed to store energy during off-peak hours and return it to the grid during periods of higher demand. County commissioners have noted that the project is expected to generate sales tax revenue during construction and that the developer has committed to using local contractors for excavation and related work.

Durant Wastewater Capacity Expansion

The City of Durant has approved a major wastewater treatment plant upgrade financed through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board. The project will increase treatment capacity from roughly 2 million gallons per day to between 3.55 and 4.6 million gallons per day. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and continue into 2028.

City officials have emphasized that the expansion is intended to keep the system ahead of projected growth while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Supporting Regional Growth

Bryan County also continues to benefit from partnership funding through the Choctaw Nation Community Partnership Fund, which has provided resources for local infrastructure and community projects. Together, the road work, energy storage investment, and utility capacity upgrades reflect a practical approach to preparing for both residential and industrial growth.

Residents can expect continued construction activity on East Rodeo Road and the Durant wastewater project, along with further development of the battery storage facility as permitting and construction advance.
